The Software Conservancy provides the following services to organizations wishing to distribute their software source code to the general public.
Does your organization have software source code that you wish to contribute for others to use and improve, and you don't want to distribute it yourself or retain copyright to it? The Software Conservancy will accept copyright to the source code and make it available to the general public on an ongoing basis under open source/free software license terms. We'll work with your organization to craft suitable donation agreements and licensing arrangements.
Will your donated source code continue to be maintained and enhanced by your organization or others? If so, we can work with you to set up the necessary arrangements to ensure that contributed code is properly donated by the developers and/or their employers, so that you and other users of the code will have the rights needed to make proper use of it.
Would you like to see an active developer community associated with your donated source code? The Software Conservancy can oversee and take responsibility for the developer community web site, including setting and enforcing policies, putting in place appropriate community governance arrangements, and taking care of related matters associated with operating an active developer web site.
